i General Information   The invitation as PDF

During the last months, a portable digital radio transmitter for DAB and DRM+ in VHF band III including a multiplex exciter and a VHF transmit unit was designed and implemented at the University of Kaiserslautern. This project being issued by LMK and supported by  the University of Applied Science (HS) Kaiserslautern was based on commercially available low-price components and open-source software. It makes an affordable DAB transmitter infrastructure available especially to local radio broadcasters and community media, paving the way for them to digital terrestrial broadcasting. Furthermore a demonstrator for DRM+ in VHF band III was successfully integrated for the first time in such a transmitter which also can be used for further DRM+ projects.
During this symposium the project partners addressed their motivation, the concept, the set-up, and the results from lab measurements for this digital radio transmitter. In addition, commercial products for content servers as well as current developments of DRM+ receiver concepts had been presented. A live broadcast via the developed digital radio transmitter and its radio reception at Fritz-Walter-Stadium demonstrated suitability of this concept for practical use. Information from national and international experts on the perspectives of digitization for local radio broadcasters and community media by DRM+ and DAB in VHF band III completed the meeting.
At an exhibition area contributing companies and institutions presented their products and services.

The symposium was sponsored by:
